Thomas and the Hide and Seek Animals is based on the Railway Series created by Reverend W. Awdry (the W is for Wilbert). The characters that would make Awdry famous and the first stories featuring them were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book, (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
Owen Bell (also know as Owian Bell) is the illustrator of Thomas and the Hide and Seek Animals. He has illustrated various Thomas books, video cases, various merchandise packaging and poster from 1986-1996. He has also provided the illustrations for all the jigsaw puzzles during that period.
